From now on Abu Dhabi will have the provision of free public Wi-Fi across the emirate. The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) spearheads this endeavour, encompassing locations, ranging from parks and beaches to public transport buses. The initiative, named “Hala Wi-Fi,” is set to redefine the digital landscape of the UAE Capital. Further, it will elevate the user experience for residents and visitors alike.
DMT’s Collaborative Initiative Enhances Public Wi-Fi Connectivity Across Abu Dhabi
In a strategic partnership with UAE service providers, the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) takes a pioneering step to expand public Wi-Fi coverage throughout Abu Dhabi. This initiative, named “Hala Wi-Fi,” aims to provide seamless connectivity in diverse locations, enhancing the digital landscape for residents and visitors. The collaborative effort ensures a broad reach, encompassing public parks, with 19 locations in Abu Dhabi, 11 in Al Ain, and 14 in the Al Dhafra Region. Furthermore, plans are underway to extend this service to the iconic Abu Dhabi Corniche beach and Al Bateen beach.
His Excellency Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman of DMT, expressed pride in offering this transformative service that ensures universal connectivity. He highlighted Abu Dhabi’s remarkable global ranking, securing the 13th position out of 141 cities in the IMD Smart City Index 2023. This accomplishment serves as a testament to Abu Dhabi’s unwavering commitment to openness, innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability. It affirms the city’s dedicated pursuit of smart city development, solidifying its standing on the global stage.
Bridging Connectivity For Users Across UAE
Parallelly, the WiFi UAE initiative, linked to UAE Vision 2021 and managed by du, extends its services to enhance connectivity for users with Emirates phone numbers. This initiative aligns with the broader vision of the UAE and complements the efforts to establish a digitally connected nation. WiFi UAE offers users with Emirates phone numbers complimentary access to essential online services for one hour. This includes emails, government websites, social media applications, and messaging services.
