Tata group-owned Air India Express has received a show cause notice issued by the Union Ministry of Labour. The reason behind this is the alleged violations, which are related to some disputes with airlines’s cabin crew and management, as per reports by PTI. The issuance came after the cabin crew raised concerns about issues like sharing rooms during layovers and others.

According to reports, Air India Express has received a show-cause notice from the Union labour ministry.

Concerns expressed by cabin crew personnel, such as problems with room sharing during layovers, are connected to this issuance. According to news agency PTI, a complaint was made to the labour department, and the case is presently being arbitrated in accordance with the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947.

After being purchased by the Tata Group in January of the prior year, Air India Express put into effect a number of measures that were subject to the mediation process. According to the news agency, the show cause notice claims that the airline changed the workers’ service conditions while labour law conciliation procedures concerning the complaints were in progress.

The notice asks why Section 33 of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947—which deals with maintaining the same terms of service while conciliation proceedings are pending—should not be invoked against the airline and its management.

According to the PTI report, Air India Express has received a show-cause notice from the Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), who works under the Office of the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (C) in the nation’s capital.

The Air India Express Employees Union (AIXEU) wrote to Jyotiraditya Scindia, the minister of civil aviation, last month to voice a number of issues brought up by the airline’s cabin crew. Among the issues raised were the members’ service contracts being shortened and the sharing of rooms during layovers.

A room in a four-star or five-star hotel was previously provided to a cabin crew member during an outing. Currently, two cabin crew members share a room. (As per India Today)

A representative for Air India Express responded to earlier inquiries on these issues by stating that the airline and AIX Connect are now integrating, bringing both organisations’ rules and procedures into line.

This includes staff members sharing accommodations during layovers, which is in line with industry standards observed by other airlines operating in India and the surrounding area. Profitable Air India Express is currently in the midst of combining itself with the losing AIX Connect (formerly AirAsia India).

A month ago, the Aviation Regulator’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a show cause notice to Air India after observing that they were not compliant with the norms about the facilities that have to be provided to passengers during flight delays, cancellations, and more.
