‘Tis the season for Christmas tree lightings! Who doesn’t love watching a vibrantly decked Christmas tree light up? It is arguably one of the best parts of the season. ITC Grand Central Mumbai recently unveiled its Christmas tree and it is undoubtedly one of the most unique and innovative trees ever! A Millet Christmas tree adorned with Ragi, Kuttu, Jowar and more! The tree was designed specifically for their chosen theme of sustainability and was an ode to ‘The Year Of The Millet’.
ITC Grand Central Has A Unique Millet Christmas Tree

On December 9, 2023, ITC Grand Central unveiled one of the most innovative and sustainable trees. Keeping in mind the theme of sustainability and paying homage to ‘The Year Of The Millet’, the tree was made from vases of millet grains. From Ragi and Kuttu to Jowar, Kangni and Barnyard, the vases were filled with diverse millet grains.
The tree was then adorned with beautiful lighting. It made for a stunning centrepiece and a lovely reminder to be responsible during the festive season. The tree is 11.5 feet tall and its lighting was witnessed by a diverse audience. It comprised guests, staff, local socialites as well as a few important guests. The tree was inaugurated and lit by Smt Priti Kumar Singh, who is the Ranisa of Khimsar.
Yuvika Abrol, who is an entrepreneur and creator, Viraf Hansotia, a Member of the Royal Bombay Yacht Club, Rajat Mitra, founder of Asian Art House, and Antoine Lewis, a food and wine critic, were a few of the important people who attended the Christmas tree lighting. The event was also accompanied by a melodious choir performance which elevated the experience to a new level.
Other Important Details About The Event
In addition to this unique Christmas tree, the hotel also installed a number of other decor pieces to welcome the season of joy. Elves, Frosty the Snowman, Scrooge, Rudolph, and Christmas angels are just a few of the Christmas characters that you’ll find dotting the hotel.
What is more? Stunning glass paintings adorn every window in the Frederick’s Lounge and The Celebration Zone! According to the General Manager of ITC Grand Central, Kunal Pahwa, the millet Christmas tree took around 168 hours to put together. In a statement mentioned in a press release, he stated that it was a testament to and the embodiment of the hotel’s commitment to responsible luxury.
The unique Christmas tree will undoubtedly make for a mesmerising spectacle for all those who are lucky enough to witness it.
